Urban baby.

May 30, 2009

This sweetheart stole the show! She was such a well-behaved little girl, it really impressed me. Lots of smiles and playing with the camera. Oh, and mom and dad were pretty well-behaved too, he/he.

I had the chance to go someplace completely new to me too, smack-dab downtown Denver. The Capitol building on one side, the Mint on the other and park square right in the center, it was really cool and I found out quickly I could easily be a downtown resident should we ever feel like urban life.

Thank you ALL for your wonderful comments on my last post. Although I certainly was not fishing for ego-boost, you sure know how to deliver nonetheless. It’s been something plaguing me for quite sometime and I just felt I needed to get it out before it started to really weigh me down. Oh, and the comment from my Dad of all people? THAT was a bonus. I always give my parents a hard time for not commenting, so that was pretty special.

So there it is and the photo above proved to me I can still be myself even when trying popular “poses.”

I’m really starting to feel like a loner in the photography world. I gravitate toward things most people overlook or don’t bother with. I have become less and less interested in technical perfection and gravitate toward the imperfect. I cannot seem to get into posing, no matter how hard I try. What is wrong with me? Somedays I get discouraged, but then I will look through my files of photographs and enjoy the moments I’ve captured. The moment photography stops becoming passionate and fun for me is the moment I’ve lost that joy. I don’t want to loose the joy and will keep on doing what I do because that is what makes me, ME–right?

Thanks for listening to me vent. It’s hard for me to put things into words and I struggle with how personal to get out there online, but I think all of us struggle with different things from time to time and because I don’t keep a written journal, this is the next best thing I’ve got. I’m one to have to get feelings out. If I keep them bottled in… NOT a good thing.

So, here are just a few of my favorite moments from the last wedding I did. You may wonder how these could be my favorites? I can’t put a finger on it, except most of them are spur of the moment. That is what I think I do best.

In search of flowers.

May 28, 2009

We are still catching up around here (Colorado has a very short growing season) but we have this bush out our front deck that I always love to look at in May. There are these tiny little flowers, which I wish I knew the name of. They don’t last long, but they always bring a smile to my face.

Mom… what about these for your notecards?

Summer eating.

May 27, 2009

I eat by mood. During the winter, I love stew/soup and comfort food. In the summer however, I can’t eat heavy like that or it’ll put me in a bad mood. The soups, stews and comfort foods turn into smoothies, grilling and salads. Our grill broke and so while we’re shopping for a new one, we’ve been doing a lot of salads. If it were up to me, I could eat this everyday (or at least 3 days) of the week.

Spinach tortilla, seasoned chicken cubed or shreded, cheese of your choice, red-leaf lettuce, blended avacado, sour cream, medium salsa. Wrap it together and you have a wonderfully delicious burrito, perfect for the summer-nice and fresh!

Be still my heart.

I could faint tonight. We had a very spontaneous moment with the boys off the side of the road today and Dewey took it upon himself to show his brother some lovin’. It was unplanned and completely his idea. They were having so much fun (more of that to come) that I think Dewey was just beside himself with joy.

I’m getting a little glimpse of what he’s going to look like in 10 years.

Oh, and for those that asked, I use a 100mm 2.8 macro lens. I love it!

Human sized birds.

May 16, 2009

I love finding new locations. I thought this looked a lot like a human-sized birds nest, what do you think?
